What a siding job involves
A siding job strips the old cladding, checks the sheathing and house wrap behind it, and hangs new boards or panels.
What siding replacement costs in Florida: estimates, not quotes
Siding for an average home, installed, models at $5,625 to $15,100 per average home, installed. That's two national ranges scaled by Florida's carpenter wage ratio of 0.80, with no Florida company siding price in it.
Its wage row is Florida carpenter pay, because the model prices siding with carpenters. The model adds no permit fee, since its typical fee comes from re-roof schedules.

Patch one wall or reside the house
Damage on one wall can be patched with matching boards. Water behind several walls, or rotted sheathing, means the cladding comes off so the wall behind it can be dried and repaired.
- Damage is limited to one wall.
- The sheathing behind it is dry.
- Water is behind several walls.
- The sheathing is rotted.
How cities treat siding permits
Palm Bay's Resolution 2024-30 lists 'New Roofing or Replacement Roofing or Siding' for a single-family home at $150, and repair at $100. St. Petersburg says its under-$7,500 exemption doesn't apply where work includes structural components, naming roofing, soffit and fascia, and siding. Flood hazard areas are outside it too.
Checking the company
DBPR lists 'Do I Need a License?' next to 'Verify a License' on its contractor page. Section 489.1425 requires a written Recovery Fund statement in contracts for work on residential property above $2,500.
Siding and storm claims
A claim for storm damage to siding is a property insurance claim. Section 627.70132 bars it unless notice reaches the insurer within one year of the date of loss, and allows 18 months for a supplemental claim.
When siding damage cannot wait
- Boards have blown off and the sheathing is open to rain.
- Water is behind the siding and showing inside the wall.
- Faded paint or chalking boards.
- A cracked panel that is still tight.
Before the siding comes off
- Ask the building office whether your address needs a permit, and who pulls it.
- Ask DBPR's tool whether the work needs a license.
- Read the Recovery Fund statement if the contract passes $2,500.
Does siding replacement need a permit?
Palm Bay lists a permit fee for single-family siding replacement, and St. Petersburg doesn't let siding use the under-$7,500 exemption. Section 553.79 also keeps any job in a flood hazard area out of that exemption. Your building office answers for your address.
Florida licenses roofing contractors through DBPR, so before any work starts, ask for the license number and look it up on DBPR's license search.
